Artist Statement

My artistic practice and research center around the caricature and cartoon visualization of complex human emotions and constructs. These concepts are often difficult to process mentally, and are far larger than the human face itself can portray, so my practice seeks out to visualize these concepts by exaggerating them in dark and cartoonish ways. My research centers around the history of cartoons and abstract representation of life, how they have evolved into their darker contemporary forms, and how it can be used to further express my own artistic concept. Through further research, I aim to find new and more drastic forms of visual representation of abstract concepts such as grief, anxiety, boredom, or insufficiency.
